Crooked Lake Ecology Center LLC was founded in 2018 to provide
a gathering place for exploring the ecology of the hills southeast
of Keuka Lake. We are located on a
high ridge east of Keuka Lake and Pleasant
Valley, the valley formed by the inlet to Keuka Lake.
The ridge is called Mt. Washington. The high point of the ridge
is the highest point in a 20 mile radius which gives us good views
of
the surrounding
hills in all directions.
At the Crooked Lake Ecology Center we maintain the gardens and
the old farmhouse restored by Bill and Martha Treichler when they
moved
here in 1975. We also maintain the website archives for the Crooked
Lake Review which Bill and Martha founded in May 1988 and which
was published through July 2008, the month of Bill's death. The
first edition of Martha and Bill's book, Stories
of Mt. Washington,
was reprinted in the Fall 2007 issue of the Crooked Lake Review.
The second
edition of Stories
of Mt. Washington was
released in August 2010 and is available at the Steuben County
Historical Society.
